George Nakashima for Widdicomb “Origins” Queen or King Size Headboard, 1958

An extremely rare and outstanding mid-century modern headboard from the Origins Collection by George Nakashima for Widdicomb Furniture of Grand Rapids. The headboard features a dramatic, sweeping form that is regal and elegant. The surface is incredibly clean, and the laurel wood veneer has a stunning grain whose lines move with the form. This particular collection features pagoda-like details and a laurel veneer finish that Nakashima called “Sundra,” Sanskrit for “thing of beauty.” Originally designed for a queen size bed, although it would easily work for a king as well. The original Widdicomb label is present, and the headboard is dated 1958. It is in excellent original vintage condition. This statement piece is unique on the current market.

Measures 109″W x 3″D x 38.25″H. Bottom of headboard to the floor measures 18”.
