Offering an iconic tandem sling airport bench designed by Ray & Charles Eames for Herman Miller. The Eames were commissioned to design the perfect utilitarian seating for the first international airports in 1962. Created for comfort and convenience, the bench features a solid aluminum frame with vinyl seats. There is some minor wear on the vinyl and some missing foam on the back of one of the armrests.
Overall, the bench is in good original condition, with minor wear from age and use. The original Herman Miller label is present. This piece would be a fantastic addition to an office, waiting area, man cave, or living room.
The seat is in original condition and in good overall condition. This three-seat sling sofa was used by the City of Chicago and most likely was used in O’hare Airport at some point. There is a minor tear on one of the back of the arms. Otherwise in good vintage condition.
In 1958, architect and Eames friend Eero Saarinen asked the design duo to address the need for comfortable, sturdy, and attractive public seating for his Washington D.C. Dulles Airport Terminal.
C.F. Murphy Associates, the architects of the two new terminal buildings at the Chicago O’Hare Airport, were also seeking durable seating, resistant to wear and easy to maintain and repair.
While the Office originally developed the Eames Tandem Sling Seating as a solution for Dulles and O’Hare’s terminals, it became a robust, time-proven, comfortable place for people to relax while waiting in airports, train stations, and other public spaces all over the world.
Dimensions: 74″ wide x 27″ deep x 33″ tall (17″ seat height)
